New residential construction plan in Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Designed a space for a family of three—musician parents and one child—on a site of approximately 600 square meters.

Given the generous site area, a single-story design was chosen to seamlessly integrate the tranquil surroundings. Within this expansive envelope, three distinct floor levels with varying finishes were arranged: STUDIO/COMMON/PRIVATE from bottom to top, each housing functions suited to their respective activities.

While the stepped floors synchronize the quality of activity, eye level, and textures felt underfoot, the large roof—like a single sheet of wood bent into shape—rises and falls with its own independent rhythm, creating a gradual transition in ceiling height and high-side lighting.

The seemingly linked yet independent behavior of floor and roof, combined with the staggered plan shape, creates a rich sequence. This design gently delineates each space, allowing them to flow together.
